Maternity Clothes

by pregnancy journalist

We asked our Birth Center Mamas for their recommendations for maternity clothing and here is what they had to say!

“Le Tote is a clothing rental service that has a maternity section! I loved it, you can also buy the items you don’t want to return.” ~ Lara

“For anyone who wants a maternity bathing suit that provides good coverage and support, I highly recommend Oceanlily on Amazon. The straps are adjustable and cross in the back. I also recommend the skirted bottom with belly panel.” ~ Corey

“I recently discovered that athletic skirts with shorts underneath (non-maternity, one size up) work great as pregnant summer bottoms. I was having no luck finding maternity shorts.” ~ Corey

“When I was pregnant in the winter I bought maternity t shirts and tank tops in the basic colors (Walmart and old navy mostly) and wore them under non maternity cardigans or jackets. So I didn’t have to buy new sweaters and a bunch of maternity clothes!” ~ Megan

“There’s a Facebook group called Dress the Bump & Beyond and they post specials everyday for maternity or nursing clothes.” ~ Megan

“Lularoe Perfect T-shirts in my *non-pregnant* size (that I already had and wore before I got pregnant) fit my belly all the way through labor! They’re baggy and long, so I guess that’s why they worked, but they don’t look dumpy, either. Dual-purpose! Also great for postpartum. 🙂 I got most of them on eBay much cheaper than from a rep.” ~ Julie

“I just 2 super soft, inexpensive ($5.97) shirts and 2 tank tops at Walmart! They are currently my fav shirts right now.” ~ Beth

“Milkmaid Goods and PinkBlush for clothing, swaddles, and matching sets.” ~ Kia

“Stitch Fix has a great maternity styling service. I always felt professional and put together at work, even when I was waddling to the copier! It wasn’t cheap, but I felt great in my clothes.” ~ Jacqueline

“Naked Nursing Tank and Jessica Simpson Maternity from Motherhood Maternity” ~ Heather

“H&M has great, inexpensive nursing tanks!” ~ Colleen

“My absolute favorite maternity clothes weren’t maternity clothes at all– jersey fabric maxi dresses stretch and are super comfy in the summer! (Also easy to pull down for nursing, etc.)” ~ Kelly

“A few Maternity leggings are a must in our generation!!! And at least two pairs of maternity jeans for a February due date. Non maternity sweaters last most of a winter pregnancy. A must for me was two soft nursing bras- I used them for pregnancy because my boobs grew so much that it was uncomfortable to wear my regular bras and I just kept them for nursing after!” ~ Elizabeth

“I just purchased a bra extender, which should help me get a few more weeks out of my regular bras, without the band digging into my ribs/back.” ~ Krista

“I had two wrap dresses (in my normal size) that worked throughout my pregnancy and still work for nursing.” ~ Olivia

“Old Navy and Gap have a great selection of maternity clothes at a reasonable price. Order when they are having a sale since they have sales so often! You can order a bunch and get free shipping. If you get anything that doesn’t work well you can return via mail or in store.” ~ Justine
