A mother who was not invited to a work Christmas party because she was on maternity leave could receive more than £8,000 in damages.

An employment tribunal has ruled that Catriona Howie, a former general manager at the kitchen and design company Holloways Of Ludlow, was discriminated against. It said that the incident had caused “injury to the feelings” of Ms Howie, who is in her early thirties and had worked for the company for six years after starting in 2013.

She went on maternity leave in 2017 and, after she gave birth to a baby girl she has called Presley, the company agreed that she would return to work the following summer. But the company was struggling financially, the tribunal was told, and bosses
