Pregnant Khloe Kardashian Refuses To Wear Maternity Clothes: Check Out Her Sexy Pregnancy Looks

by pregnancy journalist
Khloe Kardashian, despite already being six months pregnant, is still flaunting her bodacious curves. For her first pregnancy, the 33-year-old reality show star has made a pact against wearing maternity clothes for as long as she can. Kardashian is expecting her first child with her boyfriend, Tristan Thompson. Although she’s already in her second trimester with a bulging baby bump, the Good American designer is still rocking body-hugging dresses. For Khloe, and perhaps for other mothers in the famous Kardashian-Jenner clan, there’s no excuse to not looking stylish and stunning. Even in pregnancy, Khloe still makes a point to wear […]

Kelly Brook dubbed ‘judgmental’ for blasting working mums

by pregnancy journalist
Kelly Brook came under fire for claiming some working mothers use their children as an ‘excuse’ to skip deadlines or miss work.  The 38-year-old model – who doesn’t have any children – shocked viewers with her controversial remarks during a discussion on Monday’s episode of Loose Women.  Discussing whether it is a mother’s job to look after their sick children, Kelly claimed that ‘professional’ women never discuss their kids in the work place.  Blasted: Kelly Brook came under fire for claiming some working mothers use their children as an ‘excuse’ to skip deadlines or miss work during Monday’s Loose Women She […]

ECC joins paternity leave chorus | News | Jamaica Gleaner

by pregnancy journalist
The Early Childhood Commission (ECC) has added its voice to those lobbying for paternity leave to be introduced in Jamaica. The ECC says that it recognises that children, especially in the early childhood years, need their fathers to achieve maximum social, emotional, and cognitive development. “Research has shown that children who have an involved father from birth are more likely to be emotionally stable. These children are also self-confident, better able to socialise, and have better educational outcomes as they grow older,” said the ECC in a release. Optimal Infant Feeding “Paternity leave increases the likelihood of optimal infant feeding. […]

Why are maternity clothes so hard to get hold of? – The Postpartum Years

by pregnancy journalist
Rant alert! I’ve just been to Tesco and spent more money than I wanted to on bigger pants. I’ve had a near permanent wedgie for the last week so it’s definitely time to invest in larger knickers. I didn’t but maternity pants as I wouldn’t be seen dead in those over the bump monstrosities unless I was entering a fancy dress competition as an egg in an egg cup. The thing I find beyond irritating is the complete lack of maternity clothing on the high street. I can go and buy maternity clothes from New Look (but only the branch […]

Most progressive countries on maternity leave

by pregnancy journalist
With studies concluding almost as many women with children (74.1%) participated in the labour force as women without, in 2014, women who are juggling careers and motherhood benefit from flexibility at work the most. Recent research from Catalyst shows Women account for 40% or more of the total labour force in several countries, making flexible working hours, extended maternal leave, breastfeeding rooms, free education and free healthcare just a few of the ways that some countries build the best working environments for mothers. Instant Offices has looked countries with the most progressive approaches into maternity, and general parental leave around the world, […]

Pregnancy Clothing & Cravings

by pregnancy journalist
After my last (pretty honest) post on pregnancy, it was easy to see that I’m not alone in my food and body struggles during this time of transition. I appreciate all of your comments and continue to find comfort in the #realtalk coming from friends and colleagues on this journey.  El Capitan (baby’s nickname) is 19 weeks now, so just about halfway there and I figured it’s about time to pop in with an update. I’m feeling really good and things are starting to get real–we find out the gender next week! In the meantime, let’s talk a little bit about […]

In Japan, working mothers battle overwork culture

by pregnancy journalist
Kumi Matsumoto has a problem. She has a full-time job. But she’s Japanese and working full-time in Japan can mean something different than in other places, like the US. “I think in Japan, working full-time means working 24 hours. I mean full time, 100 percent warrior,” she says. “We call it business warriors.”  Matsumoto works at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo. That’s where she is this morning, seated at a small table in a cafeteria. It’s just before 10 a.m. and workers are swiping their ID cards to enter the glass building. Matsumoto loves her job, but she […]

Paternity leave is critical | News | Jamaica Gleaner

by pregnancy journalist
Since 1979, Jamaican women have been enjoying paid maternity leave as provided for under the Maternity Leave Act, as long as they have been working with the same employer for at least one year. And for many years now, the idea that male employees should be accorded the same privilege has been floating about. Thus, paternity leave is defined as “a leave (paid or unpaid time off) from employment that allows fathers to bond with the mother and newborn child”. This idea has gained much traction of late, especially at the recent International Men’s Day forum organised by the Ministry of Culture, […]

Planning for maternity leave

by pregnancy journalist
For the working pregnant woman, planning for maternity leave is something she needs to think about as she enters the third trimester. In some instances, maternity leave is a no-brainer, and as soon as you deliver you will take leave for the legally allotted amount of time per your employer. In the United States, parents can file for maternity leave under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) which offers 3 months of unpaid leave to take care of personal medical issues – childbirth being one of them. Though some employers do offer paid leave, it is rare in the US. […]
