Laxman reacts after BCCI grants paternity leave to Kohli
Indian captain Virat Kohli is currently in Australia with his teammates for a daunting task. Australia and India will play three ODIs and as many T20Is followed by the four-match Test series. Some days ago, Kohli took to his official Twitter handle to upload some video clips of his batting at the nets.
Meanwhile, the Indian captain will not play his part in the final three Test matches against Australia. The Board of Control for Cricket in India had already granted paternity leave to Kohli so that he can be with his wife. Kohli and Anushka Sharma are expecting the birth of their first child in early January.
The overseas tour begins with ODI series with the first match slated to be held on November 27 at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney. The skipper will be playing the ODI series followed by the T20I series. He will also play the first Test on December 17 at Adelaide. After that, he will fly to India in order to be with his wife.
Rohit Sharma who was rested for ODI and T20I series will be back to play the Test series. In Virat Kohli’s absence, the vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane is expected to lead skipper the Test team in the last three games.
VVS Laxman on Kohli taking paternity leave:-
While Kohli’s paternity leave created a new debate, former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman has backed Virat Kohli for taking paternity leave. Former Indian cricketer added that people should learn to respect Kohli’s decision of taking a break.
“I believe you have to respect that. Yes, ultimately you are a professional cricketer but you are also a family man, and you also respect what is good for your family and what is good for your family. So, I believe we have to respect that decision. It is a very important phase of your life,” Laxman as quoted by Times Now News.
Backing the Indian captain, VVS Laxman added that he himself skipped a couple of games to be with his wife during the birth of his daughter. He further added that the first child is so special.
“I remember myself missing a couple of Ranji Trophy matches to be with my wife for the delivery of my daughter. It is a very important feeling, especially when you are going to get your first child.” VVS concluded.
